Brother Anthony is sometimes referred to as a Hong Kong product, not in the commercial sense but because he was born and bred there and all his life he was conscious of his roots.

Dasmariñas, Philippines – A vital step in strengthening Science education in the Philippines commenced this week as the De La Salle University-Dasmariñas Basic Education Division (DLSU-D BED), in close partnership with De La Salle Philippines (DLSP) and the Security Bank Foundation Inc. (SBFI), launched the onsite segment of Phase 2 of their comprehensive Science Teacher Training Program.

In the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the spirit of La Salle came alive on 16 May 2025 as St. John’s International Secondary School and St. John’s International Primary School joined hands with St. John’s Institution and SK St. John to celebrate Founder’s Day. The event reflected a deep commitment to the values and mission of St. John Baptist de La Salle, the pioneer of modern education and a tireless advocate for the youth.

On the 15th of May 2025, I, along with around 100 classmates, received the Sacrament of Confirmation at the Church of St Ignatius, Singapore. Among these were students of various Lasallian secondary schools including my own, St Joseph’s Institution International.

A film called The Quiet Man was produced in 1952, directed by John Ford and starring John Wayne as the quiet man. The film has aged well. If there was ever a quiet man in real life, it was Brother Pius. He was rarely known to shout or even raise his voice.

The National Lasallian Vocations Team (NLVT) visited De La Salle John Bosco College in the past month, bringing a new perspective on the challenges facing the school, whether current or upcoming. The Lasallian family of DLSJBC was more than happy to welcome the De La Salle Brothers and Lasallian Partners of De La Salle Philippines to enlighten not just the students but also those who nurture them in the school setting. This warm visit did not feel like an activity; it felt like a family gathering.

The St. Joseph’s Institution International School (SJIIS), Petaling Jaya, Malaysia recently supported the establishment of a Computer Laboratory as well as to replenish the library supplies for the boarders of De La Salle Butitin, Nabawan.  The Lasallian family in SJIIS–from dedicated parent volunteers to enthusiastic students across all year levels–came together to engage in fundraising activities.  The effort culminated in last year’s joyful Christmas Bazaar.

The Brothers of the Lasallian East Asia District had their Holy Week Retreat last 16 to 20 April 2025 in three venues: Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand. The theme for this year's retreat was sharing the experience of God as communities rooted in the Gospel. Fr. Kurt Pala MSSC, a Columban missionary in Myanmar, was the facilitator in Malaysia. Br. Alejandro Cerna FSC facilitated the retreat in the Philippines. While Fr. Mark Lopez SJ, a Jesuit missionary in Cambodia.

The Philippine Sector hosted the 50th Pacific-Asia Regional Conference at Krisalis-BRCC, Tagaytay City last 22 to 25 April 2025.
